Emily Dickinson on Spring

Flowers-Kost-Homotography-11333

Emily Dickinson

A little madness in the Spring
Is wholesome even for the King,
But God be with the Clown —
Who ponders this tremendous scene —
This whole Experiment of Green —
As if it were his own!

Flowers-Kost-Homotography-2Emily Dickinson

A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period —
When March is scarcely here

A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.

It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Flowers-Kost-Homotography-3Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.

Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay —

A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.

It's no wonder she is considered one of the grand ladies of poetry. (And the illustrations don't hurt.)

Peace <3

Thanks, Jay. Dickinson is one of my favorite American poets. She also appropriate for a GLBT blog, since many consider her to have been a lesbian. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. She was such a recluse and I only know of one relationship and that was with a man, but who knows. (I'm glad you liked the pics also)
